The Schafer Law Office Pet Day And Animal Attack Tips
| Aug 18, 2014 | Press Releases

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, The Schafer Law Office had a booth at Pet Day in the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen, Kentucky. There was a good turnout, and Kentucky Accident Attorney Mike Schafer answered questions about animal attacks, car accidents and proper car insurance coverage. Pet Day was also a wonderful time to inform people about what to do during an animal bite or attack.

Animal attacks

Animal attacks are very serious and can cause both physical and emotional injuries. That is why it is very important to not provoke an animal attack, and if you have small children, make sure to keep an eye on them. Animal attacks cause more injury to young children because children are smaller. An animal, like a dog, could easily over power a child and bite them.

Animal safety tips

Mike Schafer has some tips to follow to help prevent an animal attack:

  • First, when approaching someone else’s dog, make sure to ask the owner of the dog first to make sure it is okay.
  • Also, always make sure the animal sees you before you try and pet it. If you surprise an animal, they are more likely to attack.
  • When you go to pet an animal, gently stick your hand out and form a fist. A fist is harder for an animal to get in their mouths than fingers.
  • Finally, never provoke an animal. Animals should be treated with respect. If they are provoked, they will get defensive. This increases your chances of a dog bite or animal attack.

“If you are ever bitten by a dog, it is very important that you seek medical treatment immediately! This way, you can make sure the bite does not get infected. Your local animal control should also be contacted as close to the accident as possible. This will allow them to catch the animal and run a few tests to make sure the dog did not have rabies. It is also a good idea to contact a personal injury attorney to help you through your case. Your personal injury attorney will be there with you every step of the way,” explained Schafer.
