Nissan has recalled 640,000 more cars in the U.S. and Canada. These cars are being recalled out of fear that the faulty latches could trigger hoods to fly open on the road or highway. The recall was due to the dual hood latching system. According to Nissan, its cars have a primary latching system that can “pop” the hood, but it can’t be raised until the secondary system is activated. The latter, however, may not keep the hood closed if the primary latch is not fastened properly.

The auto maker recalled 2013 to 2015 Altima Sedans and about 1.1 million Nissan and Infiniti vehicles worldwide. The recall covered Altimas built from March 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2014. A few reports of hoods flying open as motorists drove were identified, but Nissan said that no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with it.
How is the recall being fixed?
The issue is currently being fixed by replacing the mechanism or modifying the latch lever. They are also cleaning and oiling the secondary latch joint. Nissan recommends that drivers should go to the dealer for car repair or make sure that their hood is latched and locked.
